Laia Romero is Co-founder and CEO of Lobelia Earth. MSc in Research in Physical Oceanography and with sound experience in business management, her work focuses on the use of satellite data for climate action.
She has worked extensively in Earth Observation with radar technologies, developing geospatial systems and applications, and deploying and executing operational services. In 2016, she joined isardSAT Group with the mission of creating a spin-off company to operationalize isardSAT’s scientific developments. That’s how Lobelia started.
With over 17 years of experience, Laia is a well-known scientific entrepreneur with a solid track record in the Earth Observation field. She is frequently invited as a key speaker to space technologies events worldwide, and actively participates in the most relevant arenas such as the World Economic Forum and the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP).
Before joining isardSAT, Laia was Deputy CEO and Director of New Business and Innovation at Altamira Information (CLS Group), the world’s leading company on ground displacement, an absolute pioneer on the use of satellite data for commercial products, highly successful in the mining, oil and gas, infrastructure and environmental markets. She gained great expertise in management during the acquisition by CLS Group and subsequent merging with its main competitor. She has managed the development life cycle of long operational contracts such as the Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS), now deploying the new Marine Data Store, a digital global service with over 1 million monthly interactions.
